The county states that the listing shows current inmates housed at the Craven County Detention Facility and is updated as often as possible. It is a live local custody tool, not a full criminal history search. A person may appear in the roster before a complete court case record is visible through eCourts.

The Detention Center page is the county source for the housed inmate listing, deposits, phone calls, mail restrictions, video visitation, property release, complaint forms, and inmate notary services.

The jail page is also where local policy details appear, so use it with the roster instead of relying only on a name result.

The county expressly excludes juveniles and federal inmates from the public listing. For state prison, probation, parole, and historical custody data, use state or federal tools. For pending court events after arrest, use the court case record or contact the Clerk of Superior Court.

The Craven County inmate roster is most useful for the first stage of custody research. It can confirm that a person is housed locally, show the booking date, and identify charges and bond amounts as the jail has them. It does not decide guilt, prove that a charge will remain as filed, or show every later court filing. Craven County Inmate Search Fields

Name matching should be careful. A common last name, a missing middle name, or a recent release can make a quick browser search misleading. The Sheriff's Office is at the same Clarks Road complex. The official sheriff biography identifies Sheriff Chip Hughes as the current sheriff and says he has served since 2018.

Craven County Booking Process

After arrest in Craven County, a person may be taken to the detention center for booking, photographed, fingerprinted, screened, and then presented to a magistrate or judge for bond or pretrial release conditions. Magistrates are part of the District Court system and handle initial criminal process and some bond functions. Timing depends on the charge, arrest time, court schedule, and whether a judicial official must review conditions.

Federal inmates are outside the ordinary Craven County active booking list, so federal searches need federal custody tools.

Craven County Inmate Visitation

Craven County Detention Center states that all inmate visitation is off-site by video. Visits may be completed using cellphones, home computers, tablets, or other internet-connected devices. Visitors must reserve a time at least 24 hours in advance. The county also says users should log in at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Securus video visitation is the portal the county identifies for off-site visits.

Account approval can take 48-72 hours, so the video visit process should be started before the intended visit window.

Craven County Inmate Mail and Funds

Craven County jail mail rules are specific. The detention center no longer accepts books for inmates except legal documents or books. Polaroid photographs and postcards are not allowed. Magazines and newspapers require approval. Comic strips, puzzle pages, padded envelopes, stickers, explicit material, blank paper, stamps, and envelopes are among the banned items listed by the county. Money deposits use JailATM. The county directs users to create an account, find the facility, enter the inmate name, and deposit by credit card. The research did not locate a commissary price list or local kiosk fee table, so no pricing should be assumed. Jail notary services are offered to inmates on Fridays during business hours at $10 per page, billed to the inmate account.

Phone service is separate from commissary. Craven County identifies Securus Technologies for inmate phone calls. Inmates cannot receive incoming calls, but family and friends may set up collect or prepaid service online or by calling Securus at 1-800-844-6591. The county states that calls are recorded, monitored, and called-party information is available to law enforcement. Attorney communication questions should go through jail administration rather than the public visitation schedule.

Property release has a strict local rule. Effective April 1, 2023, personal property may be released only within the first 24 hours after initial booking. After that window, property generally waits until the person is released from custody.
